The Frenship Foundation for Leadership was established in 2003 to provide scholarship and grant opportunities to students and teachers in the Frenship Independent School District who consistently model and demonstrate through leadership the six pillars of Character: Caring, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Citizenship, Fairness, and Respect. Since Frenship ISD has emphasized the teaching of character in its curriculum with the Character Counts! Program since 1997, the Frenship Foundation was based upon the belief that "Character" is paramount and the demonstration of the pillars of character was of utmost importance in awarding scholarships to students.
The goals of the Frenship Foundation for Leadership are:
•(1) provide college scholarships to students that have clearly demonstrated leadership in character, •(2) financially assist employees of Frenship ISD who need assistance due to unexpected qualifying financial calamity - such as dread disease or personal disasters, and •(3) grants for innovative teaching practices or trainings that promote character education.
Proceeds from the annual "Drive for Leaders" Golf Tournament (scheduled the third Friday in May each year at Shadow Hills Golf Course) will go to support goal #1. Goal #1 is also supported by donations from sponsors of the foundation. The employees at Frenship support goal #2 through voluntary monthly payroll deductions in the form of "The Frenship Employee Emergency Relief Fund." We have not yet awarded grants under goal #3 but hope to do so in the future. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3), (non-profit tax ID #20-1678381) which provides your organization a tax-saving opportunity .
With the 501(c)(3) status, teachers and donors can earn a tax credit for their annual donations to the Foundation and to the Employee Relief Fund, as well as donations to the annual Drive for Leadersgolf benefit.
